June 1, 2017, Saint-Petersburg - ASE Group of Companies and Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd. signed a general framework agreement on the construction of the third stage of the Kudankulam nuclear power plant in Tamil Nadu state (India).

Valery Limarenko, President of ASE Group of Companies, and Sri Satish Kumar Sharma, Chairman and Managing Director of the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd. signed the general framework agreement. The documents were signed at the 18th India-Russia annual summit held in Saint-Petersburg.

The agreement stipulates the construction of two Russian-designed power units, No. 5 and No. 6. The documents were necessary for starting the third-stage construction of the Kudankulam NPP. They specify the obligations of the parties and other important cooperation conditions.

At the present time, all the formalities have been executed in order to finally launch the project of the construction of two new power units of Kudankulam NPP under Russian technologies. Within the framework of the Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of India on cooperation in construction of additional power units of the nuclear power plant at the Kudankulam site, as well as in construction of nuclear power plants under Russian design at new sites in the Republic of India dd. December 5, 2008, the sides constructed and commissioned power units No. 1, No. 2 and started implementation of the project on construction of power units No. 3 and No. 4 of Kudankulam NPP with reactor plants VVER-1000 MW each. On 10.04.2014, there was signed the GFA for construction of Units 3 and 4 of Kudankulam NPP.

In January 2016, the Indian regulatory authority issued a permit for starting the construction of power units No. 3 and No. 4 of Kudankulam NPP. Now the works for construction of these units is going on, the pouring of the first concrete is planned for the end of June 2017.

The basis for construction of Kudankulam NPP is JSC Atomenergoproekt design with power units VVER-1000 MW, which fully satisfies the requirements of up-to-date regulatory and technical documents of Russia, IAEA and is certified for compliance with European Utilities Requirements (EUR).

The general contractor (in part of engineering, supply of the equipment and technical assistance) is JSC Atomstroyexport. The general designer is JSC Atomenergoproekt. The Customer is the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL).
