CAGAYAN DE ORO, September 9, 2017 – A Brown Company Inc. (Republic of the Philippines) and RUSATOM Healthcare, a division of State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM (Russia), signed a framework agreement on construction of network of irradiation centres in the Philippines. Roel Z. Castro, President of A Brown Company Inc. (ABCI) and Rustam Rakhmatulin, Deputy General Director of RUSATOM Healthcare, affixed their signatures to the document, which is signed in pursuance of the Memorandum of Understanding concluded between RUSATOM International Network, a subsidiary of ROSATOM, and ABCI on June 20, 2017 in Moscow.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Igor A. Khovaev, Ambassador of the Russian Federation in the Republic of the Philippines, and George T. Barcelon, President of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, during the 26th Mindanao Business Conference held on September 9 at Xavier Estates. Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte was the keynote speaker at the conference.

The aim of the agreement is to affirm the commitment of the companies to move towards the execution of construction project of the network of irradiation centres to be built by RUSATOM Healthcare with the use of equipment and technologies of ROSATOM. The network will provide commercial services of product treatment with ionizing radiation. It may also serve as a research platform for studies of irradiation technology impact on various product properties.

“These technologies unlock exciting opportunities for various industries,” said Castro, President of ABCI. “They help to save foods and modify materials for industrial solutions. A Brown’s experience in infrastructure project development and agribusiness, combined with ROSATOM’s experience in nuclear technology as well as the continued support of the Duterte government, will help to further drive innovations in the country.”

The signed document outlines certain stages of the project development, from feasibility studies to construction and commissioning. It also stipulates the decision of RUSATOM Healthcare and ABCI to prepare and sign project contracts upon completion of all necessary procedures. The parties have agreed to prepare the design and survey contract by the end of 2017, and other contracts including construction of the centers in 2018.

“RUSATOM Healthcare offers a turn-key solution in radiation technologies, which will include design and construction of the irradiation centers, equipment manufacturing and delivery, training of personnel and commissioning of the facility. The technology we offer to our Philippine partners is based on more than 70 years of experience in nuclear field, and we hope it will contribute to the sustainable development of the Philippines“, noted Denis Cherednichenko, CEO of RUSATOM Healthcare.
