On 16-17 May, ROSATOM took part in the 48th Annual Meeting on Nuclear Technology (AMNT) in Berlin. The event was organised by the German Atomic Forum (DAtF) and the German Nuclear Society (KTG).
The key topics discussed at the conference were cutting-edge industry ‘know-how’ and sustainable innovation in the development of nuclear technologies, along with enhancing safety and operational efficiency. Special emphasis was given to issues related to decommissioning and waste management solutions.
NUKEM Technologies GmbH, a 100% subsidiary of JSC Atomstroyexport, which specialises in the provision of radioactive waste services, managing spent fuel, and decommissioning nuclear facilities, presented its own experience in this field. Its representatives participated in the conference’s technical and focus sessions, sharing their unique expertise of implementing projects relating to the processing of radioactive waste at NPPs. In particular, Principal Engineer I & C and Electrical Systems & Radiation Monitoring Systems Dr. Marina Sokcic-Kostic told about challenges facing measurements in a high background that require to undertake some unusual ways: "The components have to be carefully selected to withstand the radiation damages. With unconventional methods measurements in the damaged reactors of Fukushima, in storages near highly burned up fuel elements or similar are possible."
Klaus Büttner, CTO of NUKEM Technologies Engineering Services noted that “the conference gave a very good opportunity to discuss different technical topics with a wide range of international experts."
The event also included an industrial exhibition in which participants could learn more about business opportunities. ROSATOM introduced its innovative technology, production and service solutions at its exhibition stand, which was arranged jointly between the company’s regional centre in Western Europe and NUKEM Technologies GmbH. Along with other organisations, the exhibition was attended by the European Nuclear Society (ENS), Fennovoima, and Westinghouse Electric Germany GmbH.
A total of more than 600 participants from 25 countries participated in the event, including international experts and leading decision-makers working in the industry, in research and development, and in politics and government administration. The conference was attended by representatives of 180 international organisations.
