Today Jacques Regaldo, Chairman at the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO), who has come to Russia on a working visit, and Alexey Likhachev, Director General of ROSATOM had a meeting in Moscow.

The Parties discussed the current cooperation issues. Alexey Likhachev noted that Rosatom gives the major priority to the compliance with all international and local safety regulations applicable to nuclear power facilities. ROSATOM’s Director General also pointed out the contribution of WANO in safety improvement on the basis of information sharing, mutual support between operators, and exchange of best world practices, including Russian expertise, between the participants of the Association.

WANO Chairman, in his turn, congratulated ROSATOM’s Director General and personnel in general on an important achievement which is the start of the commercial operation of the first world Gen 3+ power unit 1 at Novovoronezh NPP-2. Earlier Jacques Regaldo visited the NPP site where he could form his personal opinion of the operation of the new power unit. “The personnel of Novovoronezh NPP may be proud of the start of the commercial operation at VVER -1200. I would like to wish your team a long and safety operation of the new unit”, said WANO Chairman summarizing the results of the visit.

WANO was founded in 1989. The Association comprises over 125 organizations (all NPP operators and other industry organizations providing their support to NPP operations). The representatives of Russia in the Association are Rosenergoatom, Atomflot, Gidropress, VNIIAES, Atomtekhenergo, and Atomenergoremont.

WANO has its headquarters in London with a pre-commissioning inspection branch in Hong Kong and four foreign offices located in Moscow, Atlanta, Paris and Tokyo.
