On July 31, 2017 the contracts were signed between JSC Atomstroyexport and the Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL) for priority design works, working design and supply of the main equipment for Stage III of Kudankulam NPP.

“The project for construction of Units 5&6 of Kudankulam NPP is passing to the practical implementation phase. Designing begins, as well as development of procurement procedures of the main equipment of the Russian production to complete Stage III of the Indian nuclear power plant”, said Mr. Andrey Lebedev, the Vice-President on projects in the Southern Asia, JSC ASE EC.

On June 1, 2017, in Saint-Petersburg, in the course of the XVIII Annual Russian-Indian Summit, ASE Group of Companies and Nuclear Power Corporation of India signed the General Framework Agreement for construction of the Kudankulam NPP third stage in Tamil Nadu state (India). The intergovernmental credit protocol was also signed under which Russia has extended a credit for the delivery of equipment and documentation for the construction of the NPP third stage. The agreement envisages the construction of Kudankulam NPP power units 5 and 6 under Russian design.
On 13.07.2017 an approval for these three key contracts was obtained from the Rosatom State Corporation, the RF Ministry of Economic Development and the Ministry of Finance.
On 19.07.2017 the NPCIL Board of Directors approved signing of the three contracts on Units 5&6 of Kudankulam NPP.

Kudankulam NPP is constructed as per Atomenergoproekt JSC design with VVER-1000 MW power units, which fully satisfies the requirements of valid regulatory and technical documents of Russia, IAEA and which is certified for compliance with the requirements of European operating organizations club (EUR).
Kudankulam NPP is constructed in Tamil Nadu state of India within the scope of Russian-Indian agreement dated November 20th, 1988 and its attachments dated June 21st, 1998 and the Agreement as of December 08, 2008.
General Contractor (regarding detailed design, equipment supply and technical assistance) is JSC Atomstroyexport. General Designer is Atomenergoproekt. Customer is the Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL).
