Four steam generators for Power Unit 1 weighing 365 tons each (net weight without packaging is 355 tons) unshipped at the Eastern Cargo terminal.
The shipment of equipment started on August 22, 2020 in Volgodonsk at the Atommash plant (branch of AEM-Technologies JSC, part of the machine-building division of ROSATOM - Atomenergomash). The steam generators manufactured for the first nuclear power plant in Turkey were transported in closed holds secured by chains.
To unload steam generators from the ship, a large Liebherr LR 1800 crawler crane was assembled at the NPP site.
The steam generators were unloaded from the ship to a storage area for heavy weights where the equipment and all its components will have to go through incoming control. This procedure will be carried out by a commission of specialists from the AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC divisions from the equipment acceptance control department, reactor shop, metal control and technical control department. Specialists of the equipment manufacturer of the Atommash Branch of AEM Technologies JSC in Volgodonsk, the developer of the reactor plant design of JSC OKB “Gidropress” and the key contractor TİTAN2 IC İÇTAŞ İNŞAAT ANONİM ŞİRKETİ also participate in the incoming control. The check includes an assessment of the quality and quantity of the supplied materials including an inspection for the absence of defects, check of the conservation quality as well as the completeness and correctness of the accompanying documentation.
Steam generators are the main equipment of the reactor primary circuit. Akkuyu NPP project includes four power units with VVER-1200 reactors of generation 3+; each unit will be equipped with four steam generators.
The steam generator is a first class safety equipment. It is a horizontal cylindrical vessel with two elliptical bottoms. The manifold collectors for coolant supply and discharge are located in the middle part: the coolant at the Akkuyu NPP is chemically demineralized water. In the upper part of the body there is a space where steam is generated, and in the lower part there is a heat exchange surface, which consists of 11,000 stainless tubes. If all tubes of one steam generator are folded in length, their total length will be 148.5 km. The tube diameter is 16 mm, length varies from 11 to 17 m. The tube ends are fixed to two manifold collectors. The length of the apparatus is approximately 15 meters, diameter is more than 4 m.
Steam generators are installed after the columns have been erected, embedded fittings and supports are installed; these works precede the start of the main circulation pipeline welding.
